Care Information

All items are HAND WASH AND AIR DRY ONLY. Soft Shell knitwear can last a lifetime— with the right care!

❦ Here is every detail you need to know: ❦

Handwashing:

  1. Start by saturating your piece in lukewarm water. Very hot water can cause your piece to mat or lose it’s stitch definition. I use a large mixing bowl and fill it with warmish water.

  2. Add either: a gentle castile soap like Dr. Bronners, a diluted gentle shampoo that you trust, or a natural gentle bar soap. Gently distribute over your garment.

  3. Gently squeeze and massage your item, move slowly and gently. Too much agitation will "rough” your piece up. Use the pressue and motion you would if washing a bowl of kale. Or handling a really expensive silk scarf... Too much may cause matting and shrinkage.

  4. Rinse and repeat until the water runs clear.

  5. Finish off with a rinse of cool water, it seals the cuticles of the fiber and helps the top snap back into shape. Just like hair.

Air Drying:

There are 3 ways to dry your knitwear, it depends on your garment. If you have any questions, contact me!

❦ Towel method: Lay your piece onto a thick and absorbent towel that is folded in half (hamburger style). Point a fan, or place near an open window with good ventilation. Wait until it’s dry and you’re done! If you think it needs to be flipped, flip it!

❦ Hang dry method: Grab a hanger and drape your piece along, hang in well ventilated area.

❦ Blocking method: For larger pieces, or pieces with edges that you want to keep from rolling. Start with the towel method, then use pins to hold the edges of your knit taught. Lay flat and take out pins when 100% dry. This method benefits flat pieces such as scarves and bikini bottoms that keep curling up.

Drying in your machine will almost certainly ruin your piece. Hand knit wear does not like machine agitation.
